Q: Is the Card a debit card or credit card?
A: No, the Card is a prepaid payment device with a dollar value that is either printed on the front of the Card or a "variable load" amount that is selected at the time of purchase. The Card is not a credit, charge or debit card. The value on the Card at any time is its "Available Balance."
Q: How can I redeem or use the new globally accepted gift card at a hotel within the Hilton Worldwide portfolio?
A: The hotel location will determine how you can redeem a gift card on-property:
US, Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands: Gift cards can be used for folio charges upon hotel check-out or at any on-property outlets such as restaurants, spas, shops, and golf courses.
Outside the US, Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands: Gift cards can be used for hotel folio charges upon check-out only. Guests may apply restaurant or other eligible on-property charges to their folio and settle at check-out using a gift card.
Q: How is this gift card different from the previous generation of gift cards (cards purchased prior to June 6, 2011) already offered by Hilton HHonors?
A: The new globally accepted Hilton HHonors gift card can be redeemed at all hotels around the world within the Hilton Worldwide portfolio of brands, which includes Waldorf Astoria™ Hotels & Resorts, Conrad® Hotels and Resorts, Hilton Hotels and Resorts, Doubletree by Hilton™, Embassy Suites by Hilton™, Hilton Garden Inn™, Hampton by Hilton™, Homewood Suites by Hilton™, Home2 Suites by Hilton™, and Hilton Grand Vacations™.
The previous generation gift card can only be redeemed at hotels within the Hilton Worldwide portfolio located in the US, Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands.

Q: If I have a previous generation gift card (purchased prior to June 6, 2011) how can I redeem or use it at a hotel within the Hilton Worldwide portfolio?
A: The previous generation gift card is only accepted at hotels located within the US, Puerto Rico, and US Virgin Islands.
Q: In what denominations are gift cards sold?
A: The Hilton HHonors globally accepted gift cards can be purchased on our web site in US dollar denominations of $25, $50, $100, and $500.
Q: Does the holder of a gift card have to be a hotel guest to use the card?
A: The hotel location will determine whether or not the gift card holder has to be a hotel guest to redeem a gift card on-property:
Hotels located in US, Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands: No. The recipient can use the gift card to pay for purchases at on-property outlets such as restaurants, spas, shops, and golf courses, even if they are not a hotel guest. (Note, depending on the hotel property, some services such as golf courses or spas may only be available to hotel guests.)
Hotels located outside US, Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands: Yes, to redeem a gift card on-property, you must be a hotel guest. Gift cards can only be used for hotel stays and other on-property services that can be charged to the folio upon check-out.
Q: How can I check the balance on my gift card?
A: Either call 1-800-297-7327 or go to www.americanexpress.com/mygiftcard
Q: Does the full value of the gift card have to be redeemed all at one time?
A: No, the full value of the gift card does not have to be redeemed all at one time. The total amount of the purchase (including taxes and any other fees) will be deducted from the Available Balance on the gift card. The remaining balance will be stored on the card for future use.
Q: Is the card ready to use immediately?
A: In most cases, as soon as you sign the back of the card, it is ready for use. However, in some cases, it may be inactive for up to four hours after purchasing the card initially.
Q: Are there any fees for the use of the card after issuance?
A: No, the card has no fees associated with it once it is issued (including dormancy, service or other fees).
Q: Should the card number be written down somewhere?
A: Yes, you should write down the card number, along with the American Express customer service number (1-800-297-7327) and keep these in a safe place. You will need the card number to check your balance or replace the card if it is lost or stolen.
Q: What if the gift card Available Balance does not cover the total purchase price?
A: The gift card can be used as a Split Tender Transaction to be combined with another form of payment, such as cash, check, credit card or another gift card, to make a purchase. To find out your gift card balance, call American Express at 1-800-297-7327.
Q: Can a gift card that is valued in US dollars be processed in local currency?
A: Yes, the gift card can be processed in local currency. In order to process the card in local currency, you must know the exact amount or remaining balance on the gift card (to find out your balance, call 1-800-297-7327). Next, you will need to provide the exchange rate for the value or balance of the gift card. You can learn the local currency exchange rate by visiting Oanda.com/Currency.
Q: Do the funds on the card expire?
A: No, the funds on the card do not expire.
Q: If the funds do not expire, what is the "valid thru" date on the front of the card?
A: The "valid thru" date on the front of the card is the date through which the physical plastic card must be used. Even if the "valid thru" date has passed on the Card, its Available Balance remains unchanged and intact. In order to keep making purchases with the Available Balance after a card's plastic "valid thru" date has passed, you can call 1-800-297-7327 for a free replacement of the physical card.
Q: Can I use a gift card in place of a credit card to guarantee a reservation or upon check-in?
A: Cards may not be used to reserve or guarantee rooms. Guests must reserve rooms with a credit card and then use the gift card for folio charges upon check-out.
Q: Can gift cards be redeemed for cash?
A: No, gift cards cannot be redeemed for cash.
Q. What if the Card is lost or stolen?
A. If the card or card number is lost or stolen, contact American Express Customer Service at 1-800-297-7327 immediately. Provide your name, address, card number and other details for identification purposes. A replacement card will be issued with a value equal to the Available Balance on the card at the time you notified American Express of the loss or theft. No refunds will be provided for amounts debited from your lost or stolen card before notifying American Express.
